The Very Simplest Experience
I am clearly conscious of an expanded Self-wakefulness in many subtle ways. I am spontaneously and simply conscious of Self-awareness. First and foremost, there is a quiet, ever-present knowingness that has a tangible up-lifting quality. In other words, I just know and simply feel a still sense of steady at-homeness. It is the stillness of an awake personal space in which I reside, act and breath. Looking closely, it is obvious that it is a non-moving knowledge–continuum from inside to outside. Even the attention of looking is known as the movement of the Self. This non-movement is not empty, It is a constant blissful reminder of my own essential nature. Any demarcation or separation between in or out is porous or transparent, thus allowing the senses to function normally within this my consciousness space. A supremely subtle quality of basic-awareness of awareness allows my consciousness to be appreciated in it’s first and subsequent expressions.
The knowingness-sense of lively wakefulness is the whole field. I recognize that ‘I am’ the experiencer of my own quietly blissful consciousness— and that the somebody who is actually having this experience, however unbounded or quality-less, could only be me. And it could only be me if I am that Self that knows my own unbounded nature.
Because the experience of Self-awareness was initially so abstract, natural and expanded, in the early days it took a bit of time for me to acknowledge that it was really ‘little old me’ who was actually the individual who was this absolute awareness.
With my eyes open or closed there is a kind of knowledge-sight or brightness to the Self—it shimmers so naturally and so quietly that it does not hide or diminish physical sight. This reverberation of I the knower is the whole range of continuous inside to outside perception. I am the experience or knower—that holds all my feelings, thoughts and activity within the joyous touch of unified awareness.
I see all the details of the room that I am sitting in and I am hearing sounds from the kitchen they all happen in their normal way but all within a conscious space of enlivened awareness. My senses function within a profoundly personal, expanded arena that extends around me. Since awake-consciousness has no boundaries, everything that I experience falls within It in a gentle, unified relationship. Gradually this awareness of awareness became very clear and delightful, it started to be full of reverberating sound. I began to see, hear and Be the structures and rhythms of my own consciousness. Regular life continues with the delightfully simple addition of unified Self-awareness.
Always, the experiencer remains consciously the experience. Every experience spontaneously became saturated with my very divine reverberating awareness. The sight-sparkle and knowingness of this field of awareness gradually became experienced as a constant hum of deep understanding that spontaneously expressed and revealed the sight of divine forms of natures universal activity.
My realization of Self-awareness is really an experience of knowingness that quantifies the abstract everythingness feeling and sight of consciousness. Nothing material or physical, however small or large, near or far, however delicate, is missing from this all-pervasive personal connectedness. And it’s on this, the subtest level of my senses where they are pervasively expanded into my environment, that I know them as streams of absolutely, divine consciousness. Even my senses have found a home in the Awareness of the Self.
Despite the dominant clarity and permanence of Self-awareness, the activity of my body and senses now creates a very subtle, personal intimacy with my surrounding space. The senses of course automatically function in the only way that they are structured to function, but now they do not diminish or hide unified Self awareness but rather act as the glorifying and unifying nature of my and everyone’s consciousness.
